Language Levels in the German Course – The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)
Our German courses are structured according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEFR is an international standard that divides language skills into six levels:
- A1 and A2: Basic Language Use
- B1 and B2: Independent Language Use
- C1 and C2: Proficient Language Use
Each level is further divided into two sub-levels (e.g., A1.1, A1.2, A2.1, A2.2, etc.).
Learn more about the CEFR
Why is it important to learn with the CEFR?
- Internationally recognized: The CEFR is an international standard recognized by many institutions and employers.
- Clear learning objectives: The CEFR defines clear learning objectives for each level, so you know exactly what you will learn at each level.
- Transparency: You can clearly assess your language skills and compare them with others.
- Effective learning: Our courses are optimally aligned with the CEFR learning objectives, allowing you to systematically and effectively improve your language level.

Each level is further divided into two sub-levels (e.g., A1.1, A1.2). To complete a full level, you must complete both sub-levels.
